Planning for college can be complicated and overwhelming. Let us help you navigate this process and ensure that you start your future with confidence.

Who is our college counseling program for?

Our college counseling program is designed for current high school juniors and seniors seeking information and guidance with the college application process. We encourage families to take part in this process, and we work with students and families on setting timelines and expectations. Students can expect to spend roughly an hour or two each week working with their counselor to choose schools, apply to them, write required essays, and complete other key parts of the application process.

How Does our college counseling
program Work?

One of our counselors will work with you and your student to create a holistic plan and discuss supports. After the orientation, students usually meet with the counselor once or twice a week to brainstorm and revise essays, work to complete applications, apply for scholarships or aid, and any other needed areas of support.

All counseling sessions are 1:1.

This is designed so students feel more confident speaking and writing about uniquely personal topics which will be explored through their essays. Our counselors do not write essays for students. We guide students through this process and encourage them to take control and find their own voice. By the end, students will have a much better understanding of themselves and what unique attributes or characteristics make them an ideal candidate at the college of their choosing. This will also help them during the interview process post-graduation.

What Else Does The
College application include?

Compiling College Lists
Choose the school that is right for you. We will review the three types: safety schools, match schools, and reach schools, and make recommendations based on your student’s unique interests and academic goals.
Application Types and Highlights
Most students will need to complete several applications including the Common Application, Coalition Application, and UC Application. These applications allow students to send the same application to multiple schools rather than apply to each individually. For each school, students will need to complete separate supplemental questions and essays, but the remainder of the application will only need to be completed once.
Choosing Early Decision and Early Action Schools
Let's examine the decision process. What does Early Decision and Early Action mean? We will go over these decisions and provide guidance for how students should think about this step.
Essays and Student Feedback
We will review supplemental essay questions, in addition to the main essay topics, and brainstorm responses to these prompts. Counselors will also provide students with strategies for planning these essays and how they should be revised.
Deadlines and Managing Time
Managing your time is extremely important. We will help you develop a schedule to keep you on track, and provide strategies for meeting deadlines.
Student Reported Challenges and Advice
We can all learn from each other. We will discuss challenges that previous students have reported throughout the college application process and how to best avoid them. We will also share advice that our students would give to those just starting the process.
